Still Dearer To Buy & Own Though
At first, we were overwhelmed by the news that read out in the very late nineties where buyers could expect much cheaper cars to buy once AFTA (Asian Free Trade Area) abolished tax or just taxed at a fraction of its predecessors effectively from 2002 onwards. Very unstinting, wasn’t it? Many other things sanctioned under AFTA will follow suit. A Raising Tide Lift All Boats, indeed.
Probably, we had counted the chickens too early before they hatched. Many years have already gone and past, as I observed the price of all made cars especially the ones come from nearer to our shore haven’t really changed much but gone up rapidly.
Vis-à-vis Year 2004 when you buy a Toyata Vios(Asian Version) it cost around 60K plus but in 2009 the same model will cost slightly above 80k.The accessories that come- in as required by authorities are almost similar unless you opt for the higher spec but this could probably another 10 grand or more. Undoubtedly but logically to say the present one is the much improved & advanced in features. Simple mathematics of counting may justified the say by reasoning the price hike caused by inflation, increased labor cost etc are inevitable. That’s obfuscation!
Generously speaking, minus the duty said to be zero or just one & two percent, its price-tag is still within 2004 range not as much as 80K plus. Further to our unmanning and depreciated local currency, the price can be staggering.
The wait and anticipation for much an affordable car is already over even before 2002 & we’ve been taken for a ride all these while.
You need to be filthy rich in order to drive a Continental Marque even a 1.3 liter CBU ,Italian Punto can buy you already a house and wed your newly found gal.
